Philip ran up and heard him reading reading Isaiah the prophet and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” He replied, “How can I, unless someone instructs me?” Acts 9:30-31.
This passage highlights for us the desire to study, but also the necessity of proper instruction. In our Catholic faith, we have always desired above all to hold to the purest Truths as handed down by the Apostles. This would be near impossible without the help of the Doctors of the Church, theologians, scholars, and clergy. Our greatest help, however, comes from the Holy Spirit Himself when we show a strong desire to learn the Word of God. Study of Scripture and Tradition is our way of meeting God on the road to Salvation.
