The Pre-Cursillo is the first of three stages of the Cursillo movement. This stage relies primarily on evangelization to achieve its purpose – which is bringing candidates into the Cursillo.
As a worldwide movement, the Pre-Cursillo focuses on several areas:
- Studying and selecting environments in need of evangelization. This is done both collectively as a movement, as well as individually.
- Searching out, selecting, and preparing candidates to have maximum evangelical effectiveness.
- Preparing for the Cursillo by preparing all the spiritual, personal, and material elements involved.
- Making plans to accompany new Cursillistas into the Post-Cursillo to help them mature in their faith, deepen their Christian commitment, and take their apostolic place in the world.
Locally, the Cursillo Movement in the Diocese of Memphis has a vibrant Pre-Cursillo program that includes:
- Parish Cursillo Representatives
- Active Priests, Deacons, and Religious who are Cursillistas
- Two by Two (2×2) Evangelization
- Select group reunions that act as recruiting points for the Pre-Cursillo, as well as the Ultreya
- Community Meetings before Clausura
- Sponsor Education

“You transform the world by becoming new men and women.
I am therefore delighted to join in your thanksgiving to the
Lord for all he has done and never ceases to do in the
Church through the Cursillos de Cristiandad.”
– Pope John Paul II
